History:
The Boivin house was founded by René Boivin (1864 – 1917) in 1890. It produces jewelry that conforms to the taste of the time, mainly through special orders. When René Boivin died in 1917, the house was run by his wife Jeanne, sister of the couturier Paul Poiret.
In 1919, she recruited Suzanne Vuillerme (1900 – 1983), future Madame Belperron. She greatly contributes to the success of the house by offering modern and daring jewelry. Initially located on rue des Pyramides, in 1931 the house moved to avenue de l’Opéra. Suzanne Belperron left the Boivin house in 1932 after refusing to see her name affixed to a creation.
The house has fans, notably writers like Louise de Vilmorin, aristocrats like the Princess of Faucigny-Lucinge or painters like Kees Van Dongen. The creations of the house were presented at the Universal Exhibition of 1937 and at the Decorative Arts Exhibition of 1946. Jeanne Boivin passed away in 1958. Her daughter Germaine, assisted by Juliette Moutard, succeeded her.
